As Midwesterners, have we grown soft?
I come into my office at 4 p.m., and the first thing I hear is that local basketball games are being canceled because it might snow. It's not precipitating at all right now! At the risk of sounding old, this never happened when I was in school. We never got to go home until there were already 4-6 inches of snow on the ground.
We never had a snow day or a game cancellation because of the "threat" of snow. I think the TV media works everyone into hysteria every time a winter storm moves into the area. "Oh, my God! It's going to snow! Will we ever survive? Lock the doors and windows! Hide the women and children!"
For crying out loud, it's January in Northeastern Illinois. What do you expect besides snow and cold? If you've lived here all your life as I have, it's no big deal. Let's go to work. Let's go to school. Let's play some basketball. I know how to drive in snow, and so do you. Forget the weather and live your lives.
