Johan Santana to the Mets???? Please, Please let it be true!
For years, White Sox fans have dreamed of not having to deal with the unstoppable Minnesota ace, who has compiled a 36-14 record against American League Central opponents over the last four years. Ten of those 36 victories came against the South Siders.
Worst of all, the Sox hitters have become notorious for throwing up their hands in surrender at the mere sight of Santana. It has not been uncommon for the left-hander to pile up double-digit strikeouts by the sixth inning of his starts against Chicago.
If Santana and the Mets can come to contract terms by Friday's deadline, Santana becomes the Phillies' problem. And the Braves' problem. Really, the whole National League's problem.
Good riddance.
The Twins aren't going to be a factor in the AL Central this year. No more Torii Hunter, and no more Johan Santana. Cleveland and Detroit are still looking tough, but a weakened Minnesota only bodes well for the White Sox in 2008.
