The most absurd part of the Super Bowl broadcast: Watching a bunch of crazed morons storm the field at halftime for the chance to be close to 90-year-old Tom Petty.
I have to admit, I just don't get it. All of a sudden, all these young people run out of the tunnel waving their arms and acting excited. How many of them actually know who Petty is? Where do they come from and how are they chosen?
Well, I did a bit of Internet research and it appears the NFL does an American Idol-style audition to determine who appears on the field during the concert. The "lucky ones" who get chosen then stand outside the stadium, waiting for their opportunity to make fools of themselves on national TV. Then they run on the field and pretend to be having the time of their lives. Isn't that grand?
I guess we have to make a big production out of everything these days, don't we?
