I was already at work when Joe Crede hit the game-winning grand slam off Pat Neshek in the seventh inning earlier this afternoon. I hope Hawk Harrelson survived. He often has a near stroke whenever Crede does something dramatic in the late innings.
Crede's play so far this season is proof that the trades you don't make are sometimes the best ones.
Already, Crede has hit two game-winning home runs in the late innings. In addition, he made a diving stop to get Bobby Jenks out of a ninth-inning jam on Saturday in Detroit.
Crede's presence in the lineup has been the tipping point in three of the Sox five victories. Twice he made a big impact with his bat, once with his glove.
Here in the first week of the 2008 season, the Sox are on a five-game winning streak. The last time the Sox had a five-game winning streak was August of 2006.
That's right: They never won five in a row during the miserable 2007 campaign. The attitude looks a lot different this year. The guys seem to be enjoying playing the game of baseball again. The long faces and dejected looks from last season are gone.
Even if the Sox don't make a run to the postseason this year, it looks like they will be enjoyable to watch.
