Until the Bulls somehow won the NBA draft lottery, that is.
Steve Schanwald, the Bulls' executive vice president of business operations, represented the Bulls at the lottery Tuesday night.
The team had only a 1.7 percent chance of claiming the top pick. By his own admission, Schanwald thought the trip wasn't worth his while.
"I thought it was a waste of time," Schanwald said. "I thought coming here was an absolute waste of time. I knew I would get a great meal out of it, but I thought it was a waste of time."
Little did he know that he would soon be interviewed by ESPN's Doris Burke on national television after the Bulls shockingly got the top choice.
Is the fix in? We all know the NBA likes having successful teams in big markets. The Bulls desperately need a superstar player to revive the franchise.
I always thought the lottery was fixed the year the Patrick Ewing came out of college. The league made sure he got to the New York Knicks.
Now, perhaps the league is making sure the Bulls get former Simeon High School star Derrick Rose.
If indeed the fix was in, Chicago fans thank NBA commissioner David Stern. We'll gladly take Rose with that first overall pick.
