Mark Buehrle's revival - Jason's Take

Mark Buehrle's revival

There has been a lot of bitching and moaning about Mark Buehrle this season. He got off to a slow start. So-called reporters speculated that he was injured, even saying that Buehrle needed "seven days of rest" in between starts to pitch effectively.

Well, if Buehrle is injured, he's doing a good job of pitching in pain. He's gone eight innings in three consecutive starts now, including Wednesday's 8-2 win over the Pirates.

In those outings, he's 2-0 with a 1.50 ERA. In 24 innings, he's struck out 13 and walked only four. And despite all the early hand-wringing, he leads the Sox starting staff in quality starts with 10.

So far this year, Sox youngsters Gavin Floyd and John Danks have stepped up. But at some point, they'll struggle, as all young players do. When that time comes, the Sox will need Buehrle to move back to the front of the rotation.

Right now, he looks poised to do that.
