National League gets whooped - Jason's Take

National League gets whooped

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)

Interleague play came to an end Sunday night when the White Sox beat the Cubs 5-1 to complete a sweep at U.S. Cellular Field. The final results are in, and the National League got whooped. Again.

As a matter of fact, the White Sox went 12-6 against National League teams. That's a pretty good record, but that mark ranks fourth among AL Central teams:

Minnesota 14-4
Detroit 13-5
Kansas City 13-5
Sox 12-6
Cleveland 6-12

Among National League teams, only two finished with a winning record in interleague play. Amusingly, one of those teams is the last-place Cincinnati Reds (9-6). The New York Mets also finished 9-6. Meanwhile, the team with the best record in the NL -- the Cubs -- went just 6-9 against AL foes.

Over the last five years, the AL has dominated:
2008: 149-102 (.594 winning percentage)
2007: 137-115 (.544)
2006: 154-98 (.611)
2005: 136-116 (.540)
2004: 127-125 (.504)
Total: 703-556 (.558)
