In this line of work, one often has to spend Saturday night at the office. That will be the case for me this week. The one benefit from that: I get Wednesday off. I spent yesterday afternoon at the Sox-Rangers game.
As it turned out, I was sitting next to some old-timer, who spent the game diligently keeping score.
The Sox were trailing 8-7 with two on and two out in the bottom of the eighth. Carlos Quentin was at the plate. At that point, the old-timer yelled, "C'mon Carlos! Just get a base hit! You don't have to try to park it!"
Ignoring that advice, Quentin swung at the first pitch and knocked it well out of the park, giving the Sox a 10-8 lead. At that point, I yelled, "Or just park it!"
Sometimes it pays to swing for the fences.
