Back in April of 1923, slugger Babe Ruth hit the first home run in the history of Yankee Stadium. After the game, Ruth said, "I hit the first home run at Yankee Stadium; God only knows who will hit the last."
Eighty-five years later, God knows and so do we all.
The answer is journeyman catcher Jose Molina, whose two-run blast gave the Yankees the lead for good in a 7-3 victory over the Baltimore Orioles Sunday night. It was the final game contested at Yankee Stadium, which will soon have a date with a wrecking ball.
A quick comparison between Ruth's career numbers and Molina's:
Ruth: .342 avg., 714 HRs, 2,217 RBIs.
Molina: .238 avg., 19 HRs, 124 RBIs.
For Molina, it was just his third home run of the season. Improbably, he is now the answer to a trivia question.
