I realize that Thanksgiving football is a Detroit tradition and all, but having the Lions on national television is enough to cause fans a little indigestion after they eat their turkey dinner.
The Lions are really terrible this year, 0-11 in fact, and they are matched up with the Tennessee Titans (10-1) on Thanksgiving Day. Tennessee is coming off its first loss of the season, a 34-13 defeat at the hands of the New York Jets last Sunday.
You never really know in the NFL. Anything can happen, but one would imagine the Titans will be eager to get back on track. They won't look past the Lions, and they'll slaughter them by three touchdowns or more. That's good if you're a Tennessee fan. Probably pretty boring for the rest of us. At least you won't miss much if you sit down for dinner during the game.
The late afternoon game isn't much better. Dallas (7-4) hosts Seattle (2-9) in what figures to be another one-sided matchup. In fairness to the schedule-making computer, this game looked like a good one at the start of the year. The Seahawks have been one of the most disappointing teams in the NFL this season.
The night game is actually a decent matchup, Philadelphia (5-5-1) hosts Arizona (7-4). Alas, the game will be televised on NFL Network. That means most of the country can't watch.
Thanksgiving football: It just ain't what it used to be.
I wouldn't be surprised if the league threatened William Clay Ford about not having Thanksgiving games at Detroit anymore if something was not done about turning the Lions around. William Ford has been loyal to Matt Millen forever, and I have to wonder why Ford would fire Millen in the middle of the season. Sure it's about time, but I have to think there had to be a motive for Millen to go. I am guessing the threat of losing Thanksgiving football played a role.
I have no problem with the Lions on Thanksgiving Day. It's interesting if they win a game, and if they lose, it's funny. As a poster of Motown Sports, I read the game threads, and the commentary is interesting to say the least. So that part of it is fun. I do hope the franchise start turning it around.
I am going to be interested to listen to the Cards/Eagles on the radio tomorrow. Andy Reid is under fire by the fans. I could see the faithful chant "FIRE ANDY" tomorrow night. I wish I can watch it on TV. Plus, it will be interesting how McNabb responds after unfairly being benched against Baltimore. I sure hope Reid does not bench McNabb again. Kevin Kolb is not the answer, and he showed that against the Ravens when he relieved McNabb.
I will watch the Lions game, and listen to the Eagles game.
Lions got a history to accomplish, and it will be interesting how Philly responds or how the fans respond to the Eagles if the team is losing.
Oh and Sunday Night Football is going to be fun too. :-)
Sunday Night Football might be fun for you. I'm not looking forward to it because a) I have to work and b) I have no faith in the Bears this season. I'm not excited about the team.
