The bright side of Week 17 in the NFL

Romo.jpg While the locals here are disappointed in the demise of the Bears, I prefer to look on the bright side.

Namely, January weekends will be void of Cowboys and Patriots this year. Both teams were eliminated from playoff contention Sunday.

I'm sick and tired of seeing the Cowboys on national TV every week. I just stop watching after awhile. I don't care about their "elite talent." They are just a 9-7 team that can't stop bickering amongst themselves.

I don't know what ESPN's Ed Werder is going to do now that he doesn't have the Terrell Owens and Tony Romo saga to cover each day. Personally, I won't miss those reports at all.

And BTW, Rex Grossman still has two more career wins in the playoffs than Romo. Grossman has two, and Romo has none.

Good riddance to the Patriots, too. Bill Belichick can be a genius some other year. I'll enjoy the peace of Boston-free playoffs, for what little I'll watch of them.

It's hockey and college basketball season now.

Let's look at the bright side.

I just want to start off by saying I am very proud of my team (Vikings) for this accomplishment. I cried after the game was over. I had tears in my eyes. This moment ranks up with great moments such as the Twins winning a World Series in 1991, the Gophers going to the Final Four in 1997, the Wild being in the Western Conference Finals in 2003, and the Timberwolves being in the Western Conference Finals in 2004. I have been very fortunate to live those types of moments as much as you claim that Minnesota is nothing more than Loserville in your eyes. I have had some good moments too.

This was a special day. I got drunk around 7 o'clock as I drank several wine to enjoy this occasion. I thought it was great to get drunk tonight for so many reasons. This team showed me guts, character, warrior-like mentality, and all. The Vikings deserve purple heart for what they did this season. It was a special team to watch, and what they did is why I am proud to be a Vikings fan.

This is a special feat because the Vikings won the division against a team that I hate in Da Bears. It's not the same if the Vikings won the division over the Packers. It's special that they did it against Da Bears especially with you running your mouth about how Da Bears were going to win today and how the Vikings are going to choke. Neither of that happened so it gives me a great pleasure to see this occured. I don't think Bears fans ever suffered as fans in their lives so it was great to see Bears fans get what they deserve today.

The only team that would make me please is seeing Da Bears go 0-16, which is something I want to see before I croak.

I probably will never get over Game 163 considering there were politics that came into play by Major League Baseball, but at least, I got something special today, which is seeing the Vikings win the NFC North and Da Bears going home now.

This day meant a lot to me.

Wow dude. You consider the Vikings winning the NFC North a great accomplishment? You cried after the game was over? You got drunk at 7 o'clock to celebrate? Wow. So let's break this down...I'll start by saying I'm not a Bears fan. So you're proud of a team that won one of the weakest divisions in football, one that has the only 0-16 team in NFL history. And they barely beat a Giants team that was without it's leading rusher for the entire game, and it's starting QB for the entire second half.

And you say Bears fans haven't suffered? Maybe they haven't suffered like Vikings fans (losing all 4 Super Bowls they've been in), but they have suffered through some painful seasons on ineptitude.

As for never getting over game 163, you really need to. The Twins lost. Period. There was no lone gunman. THere was no Area 51. Bigfoot didn't flip the coin.

Anyway, congrats on the Vikings win. Too bad Their going to get their butts handed to them by the Eagles on Sunday. When it does happen, I'm a little afraid for you. I mean, if you get drunk and cry over your team barely making it into the playoffs, I can only imagine what will happen when they're one and done.

Al, you are spot on in your remarks about the weakness of the NFC North.

It is often said that you are only as strong as your weakest link. Well, the weakest link in the NFC North was historically bad this year.

I don't think there is any such thing as an automatic win in the parity-driven NFL, but a game with this year's Detroit team is the closest thing you'll ever see to a guaranteed victory.

Stop insulting my intelligence, Al. Chicago sports fans have had success that every sports fans envy. Let's see. The Bulls won championships in the 90s, The Hawks went to the Finals in 1991, Illinois has had success in college sports, the White Sox won a World Series championship just few years ago, the Cubs went to the playoffs in the last two years despite embarrassing themselves in the NLDS, Yeah Chicago sports fans have really "suffered". As a Minnesota sports fan, I wish I got to experience a championship run like Chicago sports fans have. I was too young to remember the Twins' playoff run in 1991, and I watched it as a seventh grader, but it's hard to remember much being a young kid. As an adult, it's easy to grasp and clutch on the memories and share it with friends. The only thing I got going is telling friends about Jack Morris shutting down the Braves, Jack Buck saying "We will see you tomorrow night" after Kirby's HR, and Kirby making a great catch at centerfield. Chicago sports fans can tell so many memories about their teams and rub it in in the process so please spare me how Chicago sports fans have "suffered"

You want suffering. Talk to a Cleveland sports fan, Minnesota sports fan, or a Philly sports fan, and get back to me, Al.

As for winning the NFC North, you damn right I was very happy. It's been four years since the Vikings have not made the playoffs, and Zygi Wilf never celebrated a division winner until Sunday so yeah I am going to be emotional.

As for Game 163, I hate the White Sox. Better yet, I hate all Chicago sports teams so yeah it hurts that my team lost to a team I hate. I will remember this for the rest of my life. I ain't getting over it anytime soon and you can bet I won't get over it 20 years from now. I have hard time believing MLB had that coin flip. It's very clear that baseball wanted a Chicago World Series especially with the Yankees going down. MLB is all about ratings, and Minnesota sports teams give low ratings hence why you see refs going against Minnesota sports teams.
