Bears will open at Green Bay

| | Comments (4) | TrackBacks (0)

The Bears will be opening on Sunday Night Football for the second consecutive year. The Mediocrities of the Midway play at Green Bay on Sept. 13.

Sounds like 0-1 to me.

The rest of the schedule will be released sometime in April. The Bears have 2009 home games against Green Bay, Minnesota, Detroit, Arizona, St. Louis, Cleveland, Pittsburgh and Philadelphia.

In addition to the road opener against the Pack, the Bears have road games against Detroit, Minnesota, San Francisco, Seattle, Baltimore, Cincinnati and Atlanta.

No offense, but what did Da Bears even do to earn a Sunday Night Football game? They have been underachievers since getting blown out in the Super Bowl. I am not sure why they get national appearances to begin with. I know Da Bears have a big following in America, but c'mon.

While I am it, why are the Raiders are always opening up on Monday Night Football? For what? The last several years, I have seen the Raiders as the late game of Monday Night Football on Week 1. I am not sure why. I understand they are a popular franchise, but since their last appearance in the Super Bowl, they have been chronic losers. Sorry, but no football fan want to see the Raiders on Monday Night Football.

I am alright with the Lions being in Thanksgiving game since it's tradition even though I wish they start getting better and represent the league well.

The teams that should be on national TV on Opening Week are the Patriots, Steelers, New York Giants, the Super Bowl winner, and the Super Bowl runnerup, and that's it. I want to watch winners not popular teams that are underachievers or just losers.

I believe the Raiders are playing Dallas on Thanksgiving Day as well. Not sure why they are given so many national TV spots. They haven't been good in years.

With the Bears-Packers rivalry being the oldest in the NFL, usually one of those two games lands on national TV. It's traditional, much like the Lions playing on Thanksgiving Day.

The Raiders get primetime due to their ratings driven by a nationwide fan base of drug addicts, alcoholics and gang bangers. Their years in L.A. made the Silver and Black a dirt-bag brand. Go to Oakland and see for yourself.

Thanks for clearing that up for us, Chris. I'll take a pass on the trip to Oakland though. Four cops just got killed there. Doesn't sound real safe.
