I get a chuckle out of the possibility that the New York Yankees will have to play 33-year-old Cody Ransom at third base this year.
Alex Rodriguez has a torn labrum in his hip, and he will attempt to play through it. If not, it will be time for surgery and a four-month rehabilitation for the disgraced third baseman.
It hasn't been a good 18 months or so for A-Rod. The Yankees missed the 2008 playoffs. He's going through a divorce. He got caught juicing. And we know he lied to Katie Couric about his steroid use in a Dec. 2007 interview. He also falsely accused Sports Illustrated reporter Selena Roberts of "stalking" him.
Seems like the bad karma is starting to catch up with good, ol' aloof A-Rod. And here now is Culture Club:
HEY, IT'S DEBBIE GIBSON!

I was watching SportsNet New York's Daily News Live (NY's version of Chicago Tribune Live). This stringer from SNY was asking fans if they ever heard of Cody Ransom and most of them said "Huh" or "They never heard him". I never heard of Ransom until today to be honest with you.
I have to wonder if the hip injury was revealed couple of weeks ago and with Joe Crede being available, would Crede be a Yankee instead?
As for A-Rod, it's one thing or another with him. He just creates news every single week. It's ridiculous. Heck you can make a case that A-Rod is more of a distraction than Manny when you compare the antics of both men. At least, Manny's teammates in Boston tolerated him until Manny quit on them last year in the summer to the point he really had to go. Most of A-Rod's teammates with the Yankees just don't like him or care for him. Notice how annoyed they actually were to even go watch A-Rod's apology in front of the media few weeks ago?
A-Rod is not liked in baseball, and in his three stops of his MLB career, most of his teammates did not seem broken up about him leaving. It says something about his character.
He brings this all on himself. He should just pipe down, and just play baseball. He can't even do that. I know he plays in a big market, which he is overwhelmed, but c'mon.
Most of his decisions in life hasn't been smart and that goes back to his days in Texas, and it has now finally caught to him.
He is getting what he deserve, and so are the Yankees for even bringing him back last year. They should have watched their hands on him the minute A-Rod opted out.
Certainly, A-Rod's teammates in Texas did not like him. IIRC, Michael Young had some terse words for A-Rod after he departed. Young is a respected player around the league, so his opinion carries some weight.
A-Rod's Yankee teammates looked like they were ordered to attend his press conference whether they liked it or not.
