Hey look! Sox offense!

Fields.jpgMaybe I should bitch about the Sox lack of hitting at home more often, huh? Six home runs tonight, including two by forgotten man Josh Fields (left) in a 10-7 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers at U.S. Cellular Field.

It was a good night for the Sox top draft pick, too. Jared Mitchell hit a 3-run homer to help LSU clinch the College World Series title with an 11-4 victory over Texas. Mitchell was named the Most Outstanding Player in the tournanent.

Meanwhile, the Cubs gave the Sox no help again, losing to the Tigers 5-3.

How do people root for the Cubs year after year? I've wanted them to win the last two days. They've let me down and I'm already sick of their crap.

Watching Lou's face in the highlights from Comcast Sportsnet Chicago tonight was priceless. He just looked stunned at what's going on rather than being proactive. This has been the face of Lou all season. That face is a symbol of what has went wrong all season. In sports, a manager's personality reflects on the players, and now the players have taken Lou's personality of just being sluggish and clueless.

I will say it again. I think it's time for Lou to either resign or the Cubs should fire him and hire Brenly or Terry Bevington (my first choice!) for the remainder of the season. It can't be any worse, right. It's clear Lou has no answers.

The Cubs should consider hiring Steve Stone as GM next year and Mark Grace as manager. To me, Stone's intellect and knowledge of the game would make him a great general manager, and Grace would bring passion that is lacking in the dugout. If anything, Stone and Grace would bring buzz that is lacking with the Cubs today. One thing about Stone and Grace. They would bring credibility that is lacking at Wrigley. I guarantee if Stone and Grace were running the team now, the Cubs would be up by 10 games now, and they probably would have a championship right now. I bet if John McDonough was running the Cubs, this move would have happened years ago.

When will Cubs fans start demanding Lou to be fired? He hasn't been spectacular in the playoffs, which he is still winless in a playoff game. I love how Dusty Baker got ran out of town by the Wrigley zealots yet Lou has gotten a free ride in town for some reason.

People root for the Cubs because it's a chic thing to do. They are a popular team, and the mainstream media always promotes them so naturally fans around the country will root for the Cubs. I don't think it matters about wins or losses anymore. It was like that with the Red Sox in the 80s and 90s too. People rooted for the Red Sox because they were popular not to mention people who hated the Yankees thought Boston was what's good for baseball. That's what it is with the Cubs.

I don't understand the fascination with Terry Bevington.

Umm, John McDonough did run the Cubs. For many years. And he did not hire Steve Stone as GM, nor did he hire Mark Grace as manager.

Terry Bevington was a great manager. He got the most out of his roster, and he had winning seasons. Quite frankly, the White Sox were never that good yet Bevington made them winners. If anyone in Chicago seriously thought the White Sox were in the same class as the Indians, then they were being delusional. Even with the fire sale, Bevington was able to win. Plus, Bevington always beated the Twins everytime.

Now did Bevington made mistakes? Yes. He should have done a better job of relating to the writers and the players. Bevington should have known dealing with the media is a responsibility of being a manager, and he should have never turned players off. With that said, people deserve a second chance, and I have seen many retread managers come back so why not Bevington.

I will take Bevington over many managers today.

Bevington > Gardenhire
Bevington > Wedge
Bevington > Hillman
Bevington > Geren
Bevington > Jerry Manuel
Bevington > Fredi Gonzalez
Bevington > Maddon
Bevington > Washington
Bevington > Wakamatsu
Bevington > Macha
Bevington > Piniella
Bevington > Baker
Bevington > Bochy
Bevington > Tracy
Bevington > Black

How is it he does not have a job?

You answered your own question. Bevington related poorly to players and embarrassed himself in front of the media. Therefore, he hasn't gotten a second chance.

BTW, beating the Twins in 1996-97 wasn't much of an accomplishment. Minnesota had some really bad years in the late 90s.
