The 'excitement' of the NFL preseason

So, the Bears will be playing three preseason games in the next 10 days, starting with Monday's contest against the New York Giants.

Forgive me for not being excited. I find preseason NFL to be about as exciting as this:

Hey, you gotta admit the above video is much more tolerable than listening to Jon Gruden and Ron Jaworski on Monday Night Football!

I put extremely little thought into the NFL preseason. Of all the sports leagues, it tells us the least about a team. The Lions can go 4-0 in a preseason in 2008, yet they didn't win a single game when it actually mattered! On the flip-side, last year's Bears didn't win a preseason game yet hosted the NFC Championship game.

You see about 25% of a team's playbook during the preseason, plus you'll see guys who will be assigned to the team's practice squad or cut for at least half of the preseason. These games have the smallest "feel" of a regular season football game. While it's nice to see news back up for my 2nd favorite sport, I won't get really excited about it until I'm in my kitchen preparing the large brunch that I normally fix myself before sitting down for a noon Bears game. The first Bears' Sunday being in less than 3 weeks.

Ha! That's when I will be going to my first ever Bears game. You have no idea how excited I am about that. I already have my ticket to that game here. :)

On a side note: Can you believe they actually picked the Bears' game IN Detroit for MNF in Week 5?

You have to think that number will go up since the NFL is known to "flex out" games in the last few weeks of the season.
