The final game of the four-game set between the White Sox and Detroit Tigers was rained out Thursday night. The two teams will make up the game on a mutual off day Monday afternoon at 1:10.
Is this a break for the Sox?
It might be. The Sox were slated to face Justin Verlander Thursday night. They won't be facing him Monday, as the Tigers will use Verlander Friday at Cleveland. Instead, the Sox will see Doug Fister in the makeup game. Of course, Fister just beat the Sox on Tuesday night. But given the choice, who would you rather face? Verlander or Fister?
I'll take Fister, thanks.
The Tigers won't have to face Sox ace Chris Sale, either. Sale will pitch Friday's game at Minnesota. Jose Quintana and Jake Peavy will pitch on regular rest over the weekend against the Twins. Gavin Floyd draws the assignment against Detroit on Monday.
All things being equal, the Tigers would probably rather face Floyd than Sale. That said, missing Verlander is a bigger break for the Sox than missing Sale is for the Tigers. After all, Verlander is 12-1 in his last 13 decisions against the Sox. Chicago has not beaten Verlander this season. The Tigers beat Sale earlier this month.
Bears get plowed in Green Bay
Can anyone tell me why so many people in town think the Bears are great? I see the same crappy offensive line I've seen the last two or three years. I see Jay Cutler running for his life on almost every down again.
Cutler got sacked seven times for 52 yards in losses and threw four interceptions during Thursday's 23-10 loss to the Green Bay Packers.
Not even slightly surprising.
The Bears have gotten their asses kicked repeatedly by the Dom Capers' defense in Green Bay over the last few years, but they still have neither the personnel nor the scheme to block the various array of blitzes Capers throws at them.
Regardless of what the Bears have at the skilled positions, it's pretty hard to win championships in the NFL when you flat out suck on the offensive line.
At this point, I would describe the Bears offensive line as a giant mountain of suck.
The Sox are shuffling their rotation again.

Francisco Liriano Saturday against Minnesota, Jake Peavy Sunday.
Jose Quintana Monday against Detroit.
Gavin Floyd to start Tuesday against Kansas City.
I really thought the Bears were going to be more fun to root for after they fired Jerry Angelo. Guess I was wrong.
Not sure what to think about the Bears' new GM yet. It will probably take him more than one offseason to fix all Angelo's gaffes. Of course, with that aging defense, that side of the ball might need fixing by the time the offense gets repaired.
The good news is the Sox are still leading their division. If they can hang on and play into October, I won't have to spend too much time thinking about the Bears.
The offensive line remains terrible. Obviously, that takes more than one offseason to fix. Boy, I hope the NHL settles its labor dispute.
Indeed. Chicago sports will be bleak this winter if the Blackhawks do not play.
