Jason's Take: Jason Bauman : May 2008 Archives

Jason Bauman : May 2008 Archives

Here's proof that most in the Chicago media don't know crap about baseball: All season long, they have been talking about how Jim Thome can't hit a fastball anymore. Wrong!

Errors, errors, errors and more errors. That's what.

As you might have heard Monday, former Cubs pitcher Geremi Gonzalez, 33, was struck by lightning and killed on a Venezuelan beach. Despite his 11-win rookie season as a Cub in 1997, I'll always remember Gonzalez for what he did while a member of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.

The White Sox have won eight games in a row, and they've done so by beating pitchers you would never expect them to beat.

This is different from your ordinary, run-of-the-mill waste of time. This was an "absolute waste of time."

Until the Bulls somehow won the NBA draft lottery, that is.

OK, maybe that's hyperbole, but Houston outfielder Michael Bourn made a fool of himself Monday night.

Did anyone catch the Mets-Yankees game on Sunday Night Baseball? Former Sox manager Jerry Manuel got ejected. Good to know Jerry still has a pulse.....

Just where has all the offense gone?

Baseball writer Tom Verducci from SI.com had an interesting article Wednesday with numbers that confirmed what my eyes have been telling me all season: Offense is way, way down in the American League. Historically down.

It seems unlikely that White Sox right-hander Jose Contreras will ever regain his 2005 dominance. However, he appears to be re-establishing himself as a dependable pitcher.

Cincinnati manager Dusty Baker is quite the public enemy on the North Side of Chicago. His latest blunder only adds to his legend.

Long-time baseball observers might recall the day when former Dodgers' manager Tommy LaSorda went off on a member of the press after Dave Kingman hit three home runs against his team.

In a bit of good news for Blackhawks fans everywhere, there appears to be a strong chance that Pat Foley will return to the team's TV booth next season.

Normally, I enjoy a good Ozzie Guillen tirade. But the latest rant left me shaking my head in dismay.
