The U.S. Census Bureau this week released its latest county-level population estimates, and the figures show the Fox Valley has grown considerably since 2000. But you already knew that.
While the growth isn't surprising, the numbers themselves might be.
* In Kane County, the total population grew by nearly 90,000 between 2000 and 2006.
* The asian population nearly doubled to 14,968.
* In Kendall County, the total population grew by more than 33,000.
* The black population more than quadrupled to 3,527.
You can find a breakdown of the area numbers here.
Least surprising is the data showing the growth in the HIspanic population, which mirrors national trends.
An analysis by the Population Reference Bureau shows that Hispanic population growth is most clearly visible in small towns and rural communities. The total population in rural areas "increased by 3 percent, but the Hispanic population in these counties grew from 2.6 million to 3.2 million, a 22 percent increase...."
We see clear evidence of this in Kendall County, where the Hispanic population tripled between 2000 and 2006 to 12,695, faster than the overall population growth in the county.
Such fast growth leads to inevitable changes to these communities. From the Population Reference Bureau:
What are the implications of this demographic shift in rural and small-town America? In many rural areas, Hispanic population growth has helped revive communities by sustaining businesses and housing markets, and by providing needed tax revenue. At the same time, there may be a clash of cultures between long-term residents and their new neighbors. The influx of new residents, who typically have less education and lower incomes than the general population, can also lead to higher poverty rates and a greater reliance on public services.
It is still a felony to aid and abet an illegal alien. If some honest men and women, in law enforcement, would go after the bottom feeders in the government, business and the general population that have been aiding and abetting them, by the time they had enough of a handle on it to raise their heads from the job and look around I don't think many illegal aliens would still be left. We don't need any new laws to do this either. Just some honest men and women that take their oaths of office seriously! Finding them is the first step! Federal Immigration and Nationality Act Section 8 USC 1324(a)(1)(A)(iv)(b)(iii) "Any person who . . . encourages or induces an alien to . . . reside . . . knowing or in reckless disregard of the fact that such . . . residence is . . . in violation of law, shall be punished as provided . . . for each alien in respect to whom such a violation occurs . . . fined under title 18 . . . imprisoned not more than 5 years, or both." Section 274 felonies under the federal Immigration and Nationality Act, INA 274A(a)(1)(A): A person (including a group of persons, business, organization, or local government) commits a federal felony when she or he: * assists an alien s/he should reasonably know is illegally in the U.S. or who lacks employment authorization, by transporting, sheltering, or assisting him or her to obtain employment, or * encourages that alien to remain in the U.S. by referring him or her to an employer or by acting as employer or agent for an employer in any way, or * knowingly assists illegal aliens due to personal convictions.
Hire U.S. citizen taxpayer workers and pay a reasonable, living wage with benefits and then your business will run smoothly. Employers need to start to look over their shoulder from now on, because THE PEOPLE are watching.
As a citizen of this country and a patriot, use your eyes and ears to detect suspicious circumstances in your work-place or elsewhere. It really is your duty as an American to report illegal aliens who are working on a stolen or otherwise fraudulent I.D, especially in large corporations, factories or other work-sites. You can help to save the jobs of U.S. citizens. Our internal Immigration enforcement like (ICE) should be contacted. Be a whistleblower and save America from the silent invasion. This phenomenon is not going away, unless we do our part?

Mike, thanks the spreadsheet, facinating information.
I hope the poster 'Daves' soon realizes that your post has nothing to say about illegal immigration whatsoever.
And thanks for referencing PRB, I'll bookmark that one.
