Various reports are breaking that former House Speaker Dennis Hastert is expected to resign -- soon. See below for links to the reports.
Poltico: "Hastert initially planned to make an announcement Thursday, but has since scrapped that decision, according to one GOP aide."
Daily Kos: "The key here is that Dem Governor Rod Blagojevich could set up a special election to fall on the same day as the Illinois Presidential primary (Feb 5), where many D voters will come out to support favorite son Obama. Hastert may be stalling to avoid that."
CBS: "Hastert has been expected to announce his early resignation from the House at some point during the fall, but his move, which Roll Call first reported, still has an uncertain affect on the race to replace him."
Roll Call via redstate.com: "According to state law, Blagojevich has five days from Hastert's last day in office to schedule the special election, which must take place within 115 days.
"Although the law is clear regarding when special elections must be held state law is vague regarding whether a special primary precede it."
