Raise your hand (quietly) if you saw this coming

A federal judge on Wednesday said a new state law requiring a moment of silence during school is "likely unconstitutional," setting the stage for a possible halt to the practice many local school districts have adopted.

A quiet moment to reflect isn't a bad thing for school children to have. But it's clear this is pretty close to state-mandated prayer in school. If you don't believe me, take a look at the name of the act.

Find the earlier discussion on the moment of silence here.

Public schools are subject to a seperation of church and state. The practice of religion does not belong in a government funded public school.

Or, another way to look at it is that it reminds people of certain guaranteed rights by making sure that time is allowed for a person's own expression. They can pray during this moment of silence, if that is their choice. They can meditate on the last night's prime time shows. They can pick their nose and eat their boogers. The law simply guarantees the time set aside for that.

So your saying that taking a moment of silence to remember those who died in 9/11 , Columbine, any of them tragic events is unethical for a school to do?
