John McCain coming?

BY MIKE CETERA

UPDATE BELOW: FEB. 14

Rich Miller over at The Capitol Fax Blog posted this: "I’m told that Sen. John McCain is making his first trip to Illinois as the presumptive nominee February 20th to attend an event for Jim Oberweis in Aurora."

If the presumptive Republican nominee for president comes to the Fox Valley to stump for Oberweis, that's obviously going to attract a lot of attention. But will it affect the congressional race at all?

Are you more likely to vote for Oberweis if McCain appears alongside him? Are you more likely to donate to Oberweis if McCain appears alongside him?

Does Bill Foster need to compete in this case and bring Obama and/or Clinton here?

UPDATE: FEB. 14

It's true.

If Oberweis is "the right conservative philosophy that fits our district" and John McCain is "allied with Democrats," what must Dennis Hastert think of this political matchup?

Boy, could that be fun if Hastert shows for this event.

It will not make a difference to me,all I know is that I will not vote for a man who wants the war to go on for decades,he has all bad polcies for this country, and yes I would love to see Obama and Clinton here.

Foster is an Obama supporter...and of course, Barack crushed McCain in Kendall and statewide. A visit would be welcome, but probably unnecessary.

I wonder if any reporter will ask Oberweis, on the record, whether or not he agrees with Hastert's statements regarding McCain?

good point PlainfieldRob...hmm..wasn't (isn't?) Denny a Romney delegate? How's that work?

Jimbo better start practicing the party line (of course he'll have to wait to see what Grampa decides IS the party line...) on eye-rack pretty soon, as he doesn't seem to be able to say anything more than spewing "my extremely liberal opponent.blablabla".." when asked about the issues.

Agreed, Scout & Plainfieldrob

It will be interesting to say the least watching Oberweis & Hastert gyrate and spin when McCain comes calling. Another move that shows Oberweis is running scared and needs any life raft he can grasp.

The Chicago Daily Reader had this to say back in Nov re: Oberweis:

The 2008 Republican frontrunner is Jim Oberweis, who lost statewide Republican primaries in 2002, 2004 and 2006. Despite being arrogant, self-righteous, mean-spirited, doctrinaire, and viewing all who differ with him as mortal enemies Oberweis is one swell guy. He is also exactly the kind of Republican who could lose this seat.
~snip~
For Republicans, Oberweis means "reject."

Also Jack Roeser had a few telling comments as well concerning Oberweis and Hastert more recently.

Hastert brings much additional baggage to a candidate who has already struggled in three failed campaigns for major office. Hastert did much to end the Republican Revolution while frittering away the comfortable majority he was handed in 1999.His reign was characterized by unchecked federal spending, selfish earmark legislation, and many Congressional corruption scandals -- which culminated with Nancy Pelosi taking over the helm.
~snip~
Both Hastert and Oberweis now stand together as two politicians with whom Republicans should part.

Hat Tip to PlainfieldRob

Obama endorses Foster...

This is a tremendous 'get' for the Foster campaign and well deserved.
Both our Senators have come out strong for Foster. Given the polling results
from the Feb 5th Primary, I'd say once the word spreads across the 14th Dist,
the tallies for the March 8th Special Primary could well be decisive.

Given the results of the vote tally between Obama and McCain in the primary I'd
would say this indicates Dems, Independents and new voters will turnout when they
have candidates who will rally and be vocal supporters for 'the People's Business'
instead of the usual vested/special interests and back room traders selling short
the American dream.

Kudos to the Foster campaign

Shocker... the Democrat Senator in Illinois endorsed the Democrat candidate in Illinois. Yawn. Now, what would've been surprising is if Obama decided not to endorse anyone.

And do people really tow the line that much with what the Dems say? I mean, come on! Last I read, even the Democrats admit that some troops will be in and around Iraq for 10 years. Look at Bosnia! Look at Germany! Should we pull out of Germany since infighting ended 60 years ago? And why do we listen to politicians regarding military issues when we should be listening to the generals?

To answer your last question...because more than a few politicians are ex-military members, including an Admiral (Joe Sestak D-PA) which is the same as a General. [He is against the war too]

In my case, I don't know about towing the line, but rather I feel compelled to speak out on matters of war. And taking that a step further, I am working to get a candidate elected (Bill Foster) who I think will end this war sooner rather than later. I hope all veterans would work to either end this war, or in the case of McCain/Oberweis supporters, escalate the war. Either way, sitting on the sidelines means nothing changes.

The choice for voters couldn't be clearer in March & November. Putting aside the long-term occupation issue or what/if bases remain...our troops continue combat operations inside Iraq this minute...at to me, and many other veterans, this fact compels us to action.

Also serving in Congress are Jim Webb and Patrick Murphy

Both served our country honorably and with distinctions before entering politics.

I agree with you PlainfieldRob, 'sitting on the sidelines' is not optional.
As it has been said before "Democracy is NOT a spectator sport". Each of us,
regardless of political affiliations or personal opinions, needs to be fully
engaged and do our duty as citizens.

We now know what Hastert thinks...

He is now supporting McCain. No detais regarding his facial expression when making this admission.

Thanks PR..I was worried there for a minute that maybe DenDen would forget to support Grandpa after der Mitter decided that by gum, he was for Grandpa too! Mitt...grandpa..Huck..denny..Jimi..lauzen..all one big family..uhh.. strike the last name.
