Yay! A mayoral primary

With Aurora Alderman Rick Lawrence perhaps poised to launch a mayoral bid, we could see for the second consecutive election cycle a primary for the city's top elected job.

Alderman Stephanie Kifowit has already said she plans to run. And incumbent Mayor Tom Weisner has amassed a large campaign war chest, although he has not announced his intentions. If all three (and maybe more) seek the office, Aurorans will be asked to winnow the field down in a primary early next year.

As we've already mentioned, Kifowit has a lot of financial ground to make up to compete with Weisner. Lawrence would have to do the same. Both aldermen have been critics (although Lawrence even more so) of the first-term mayor.

If the election were held today, who would you vote for and why?

We think it's time to improve and transform Aurora and encourage Rick Lawrence to run for Mayor.

We are looking forward to what happens!

I would like a Mayor to represent and respond to the Aurora Communities. So far I am not impressed with Weisner. I have sent emails and or comments regarding an issue in our community...an issue that can be easily fixed. Yet, however I continue to be ignored. I am not the only voicing my concerns. My board of directors in my subdivision has pleaded also...they have been ignored as well. The only way I feel we will get an answer is if someone gets hurt.

Heather Drive is blocked off so traffic is diverted through Kensington Lakes. I can not tell you how many times I have been close to getting hit because cars speed through the subdivision. I can not tell you how many times us parents fear that one of our children will be hit.

I need a Mayor who will respond!

None of the above. I do like Stephanie's position on switching to city manager though. It's the right thing to do.

Rick Lawrences announcement was a dud. Very boring and hardly earth shattering. He said the same old political jargon that all the other candidates have said (even tom).
