Highlights from the legislative week that was:
* State Police could be required to videotape all traffic stops.
* State could extend funding for initiative to put all children through preschool
* Sad this has to be a law -- but bill would ensure that the number of bridges deemed in "acceptable" condition be equitable in all areas of the state.

HB5739: State Police officers must have cameras turned on during active investigation outside vehicle
Requires an officer of the Department of State Police who is driving a motor vehicle equipped with an operable in-car video camera system while in the course of the officer's official duties to have the system recording activities outside of the vehicle when responding to a call with the vehicle's emergency lighting response system activated.
House approved: 60-34

HB4705: Extends the funding of "Preschool for all Children" initiative
In a Section concerning grants for preschool educational programs, provides for a distribution of funds by the State Board of Education to achieve a goal of "Preschool for All Children" through June 30, 2010 (instead of June 30, 2008). Changes the date (from July 1 to November 1) that the State Board of Education must report on the results and progress of students enrolled in preschool educational programs.
Senate approved: 47-5

Fox Valley no votes: Burzynski, Lauzen
Did not vote: Hultgren
HB5152: IDOT should make sure the condition of bridges is roughly the same in all parts of the state
Provides that it is a goal of the Highway Improvement Program that the percentage of mileage and bridges under State jurisdiction that are in acceptable condition be comparable throughout the State.
House approved: 81-25-3
