Bye bye MetroFi

What's left of the failed free WiFi service in Aurora could be shut down within two months, according to several reports over the weekend.

From the Wall Street Journal:

(Lucie Poulicakos, MetroFi's vice president of operations) said the company has approached the cities it serves, which also include Aurora, Ill.; San Jose, Calif.; and other Silicon Valley towns, with plans to sell their networks to them or another party. If no buyers emerge, the company will shut down the networks in 30 to 60 days.

MetroFi says it has service areas active on the city's far West Side, downtown and on the northeast and southeast sides.

What happens to the people who use the service in those areas if MetroFi shuts down? Will anyone even notice? And what happens to the infrastructure in place, those antennas posted throughout town?

This news is like the obituary in the Sunday paper. We knew the person was dead, we just didn't know when the funeral was going to take place. In January, MetroFi said it was abandoning plans to complete a free WiFi network in Aurora. But officials said the company would support the existing network "until additional information is forthcoming..."

This is not on this subject but it happened at East Aurora and I'm wondering if any other district would let this happen at there school and what would that district do because this one seems not to want to do anything.
Just heard about the pranks at East High School that caused alot of damage to the school. From what I understand from rumors that an Aurora Police Officer let five students in the school and they kids let some others in. I'm not sure what day and there was no adults in the building and the kids did a lot of damage. The put something down the drains to clog them up and they threw ketchup on the gym floor in the freshmen center on the logo of the school. As I hear it the board doesn't think that the students should be punished. Does anyone but me think that it is a bad idea that a school would let kids in a school building with no adult in it. Does anyone but me think these kids should pay for the damage with I hear is a lot. Should the police officer be fired like I hear so many say. What about the administration that must of told the officer to let them in. Shouldn't it be school policy not to let children in a school without some adult being in there. What do you think Beacon?

My original comment included html tags that makes it unviewable. Here is what I wrote before, in response to this blog:

The damage to our high school Thursday evening is unbelievable. Pranks have happened in the past and judgment was handed down.
In this incident the board members that were present spoke with one voice and gave our recommendations to our superintendent and assistant superintendent to secondary schools. It is now in their hands to handle this situation.
We will all watch closely to see how quickly this issue will be addressed.

Any student that was involved in this should not be able to particapate in graduation ceremonies.

NONE AT ALL!

Will certain ones be able to? Would it be the 5 that were given permission to come in? Could it be ones of a certain interest group lately? Will they be favorites of administration? The information will get out, it always does.

THEY ARE THE ONES RESPONSIBLE FOR LETTING OTHERS IN!

What will the next graduating class do to top what this one has done?

What was done was not a prank.

Students have been tagging the outside of the school for over a month with paint. It is removed and it is done again.

This also is not a prank.

The Beacon article is incorrect. There was extensive damage. Why is not the dollar amount of the damage given?

This community needs to demand to know the entire damage and amount for it.

Did Dr.Roberts do what the board instructed him to do?
Is he going to override the clearly stated policy again as he has in the past, without contacting the board?

Is board President Carol Farum going to demand that the policy is enforced as it should be?

If these type of things happen when a club is let in to do things, then ALL clubs should be abolished and also sports!

The City should be made to pay for this and anyone involved, including the principal.

Was it not the officers responsibilty to call for help?

The parents or students will not have to pay if charges are not filed.

This community should be OUTRAGED!

A message is sent to all schools, all over and that is, if they can get away with it, so can we.

The entire media has proven this.

We, John Public, own the schools.

I, for one, do not like the care takers of it, how they are handling things, the continuous cost of it and the message it is sending out to the students who do right.

Let us get the key back to our property and take control.
