Who isn't for a capital program (in concept at least)? A balanced budget? Property tax relief? An end to political corruption (or the appearance thereof)?
The problem for House Minority Leader Tom Cross (R-Oswego), who according to the Sun-Times, plans to unveil next week a GOP "Agenda for Action," isn't his ideas, it's getting voters to believe he or his party can actually execute them.
According to the Sun-Times column by Steve Huntley, Cross plans to introduce a seven-point agenda that calls for a capital program to fix roads and bridges, ethics legislation and a reversal of higher education cuts.
"There are no quick fixes or gimmicks here, just proposals reflecting the concerns the voters have about fiscal responsibility, job creation, lower taxes and ethics," Cross said. These are issues stuck in legislative limbo or passed but not acted on by Blagojevich.
Notice, there are no wedge issues in Cross' plan, like abortion, gun-control, school prayer, etc. Smart move if Cross wants swing voters to cross over on Election Day to pick the Republican.
But will voters finally say they've had enough of what's happening in Springfield and embrace Republicans as the white knights? I'm guessing people are far too cynical about the state of politics to believe anyone already in power will successfully solve the problems we face.
This Tom Cross? Part of the solution?

In Naperville, PURE and other "grassroots" organizations are akin to PACE. They launder money and pass it through various groups when it is nothing other than teacher union money.
The whole system is corrupt and I highly doubt Mr. Cross is going to solve anything.
I am still waiting for the day when The Sun will provide continuous in depth reporting on the real people behind PURE and these other bogus groups but I am not holding my breath.
I think we are all too cynical regarding IL politics and why shouldn't we be. I mean we are so use to the crap that goes on down in Springfield that we expect this stuff. As far as common sense goes, well, that is not part of any agenda down there. It's all what does it do for me? and How can I get this for myself and how can I benefit from this. It's on both sides, Dems and Republicans. I am switching my affiliation to neither on my voters registration and I am now independent. I feel so much better.
