So far, I've made it into D.C. as scheduled. I didn't have to wait for the Metro and didn't get delayed on the ride. I would hate to jinx it, but it's been fairly stress-free in D.C. so far.
And it seems most travelers in town for the inauguration are taking it as it goes, too. Passengers on my flight helped one another with their bags. Others answered strangers' questions about where certain sites were and how to get around.
And I admire what feats people have gone through just to attend the inauguration. And I may be even a tad jealous.
Sitting next to me on the flight was a teen from a high school outside of Grand Rapids, Mich. He and nine others flew from Grand Rapids then to Chicago at 4 a.m. He said his senator reserved 10 tickets for the group, which will stand in one of the closest, most desired areas outside the Capitol. But kids like him aren't used to getting it easy. The teen is from a small town, part of one of the poorest counties in the state.
On another note, the Obama buying spree is in full force. Bobble heads, hats, pins, you name it, are sold all over on street corners, at the airport and in hotel lobbies. Everyone wants a piece of history around here.
