State Treasurer Alexi Giannuoulias Endorses Incumbent Mayor Tom Weisner

Aurora, IL - Mayor Weisner has already picked up the support and endorsement of several local businesses, labor leaders and a number of prominent elected officials. Today, Illinois State Treasurer Alexi Giannuoulias confirmed his support for Mayor Tom Weisner endorsing him for a second term as mayor of Illinois' second largest city, saying:

"I am happy to endorse Mayor Weisner for re-election. As State Treasurer, I know how important it is to have fiscally smart leaders guiding our cities. The economic development and revitalization of Aurora is very important to the economic future of Illinois, and Mayor Tom Weisner has the vision and ability to secure a place for Aurora in that future."

Mayor Weisner commented on the endorsement saying, "Treasurer Giannuoulias is a state-wide official we can all be proud of. With all the energy and enthusiasm of a true reformer, Alexi Giannuoulias has raised the level of professionalism and public accountability in Treasurer's Office and put the interests of the citizens of Illinois first."

Treasurer Giannuoulias visited Aurora in on December 11, 2008 to announce new legislation designed to protect college students from predatory lending practices. At that time, Giannuoulias also met with members of the business community in Aurora at an event coordinated by the Aurora Chamber of Commerce and the City of Aurora. That same evening, Giannuoulias attended a fundraising event for Aurora Mayor Tom Weisner.

Well, it sure looks like the professional politicians are lining up again. To me, it just feels like more Springfield politics that we don't want in Aurora.
