A brief update from a relatively quiet week of ethics reform and debate over religion's role in local politics.
Folks around Beacon Election Central know things really ramp up in the next seven weeks.
A forum that won't bore 'em: Keep an eye out for The Beacon's coverage of the mayoral race this weekend and through the week as it moves into a new phase -- debates and forums.
Round 1 begins Wednesday night at the Copley Theatre (or Theater, depending on who's writing it) for Mayor Tom Weisner and Alderman-Challengers Richard Irvin and Stephanie Kifowit. Local chambers of commerce are hosting this one, which is driven toward local business owners and the like.
Everything about it seems pretty standard up to the point where you find out there's a cash bar.
Alcohol and politics -- nothing strange about those bedfellows.
Sights seen: The verbal sparring between Kifowit and Weisner over lobbyist Dan Shomon, while Irvin played nice. Kifowit voted against renewing Shomon's contract. Irvin -- who has said he likes the idea of a mayor having a lobbyist available, but not the Weisner-Shomon combo -- voted for it.
