Since going negative worked so well for him last time....
The ad is not negative. It addresses the issue of taxes. Says what's wrong with the current system and says how the candidate will address the issue if elected. It gives 2 specific changes that the candidate will make to solve the problem as he perceives it. Taxes are either too high in Aurora as compared to neighboring communities or they are not. If they are too high, then something has to be done to rectify the problem. Alderman Irvin believes that they are too high and has a plan to fix it.
When the headline screams another candidate's name and at least 3/4 of the mailer refers to what that candidate has done in the past, then yes, that would be considered a negative mailer. Besides, does this mean Irvin is going to let the budget deficit spiral even more out of control, or does it mean he's going to cut spending?
Current taxes and proposals don't really mean anything. Taxes are driven by spending. Control spending and you control taxes either now or in the future. The money has to come from somewhere. If only there a candidate I could wholeheartedly support...
