Bolingbrook Raiders senior Alex McNulty had to watch the end of his prep football career from the sideline as the top-ranked Raiders were knocked out of the Class 8A playoffs on Nov. 7 due to a shoulder injury that was feared to be a fracture.

On Tuesday night, McNulty told The Brook Blog that his injury is a probable pectoral tendon tear, and that his X-rays were negative for fractures. McNulty said he would be getting an MRI on Thursday to learn more about the injury.

"It feels a whole lot better than it did," McNulty said.

On the recruiting front, the safety said he would probably not be attending Colorado State, which was the first school to offer him a scholarship, and that Akron is now the front runner. McNulty, who said that Notre Dame has contacted him, but not offered a scholarship, said he would be visiting Akron soon.

It doesn't hurt Akron's chances that former Raiders Dale Martin and Ryan Bain are on the roster for the Zips.

Bolingbrook Raiders boys basketball coach Rob Brost confirmed on Wednesday that seniors Troy Snyder and Diamond Taylor would be signing their national letters of intent this afternoon in a ceremony at Bolingbrook High School.

Taylor, who has committed to play for Wisconsin, and Snyder, who has committed to Wisconsin-Green Bay, will sign their letters of intent at 1:15 p.m. Brost said in an e-mail to The Brook Blog.

Brad Geever almost made it a repeat performance. The junior quarterback was on his way to a 77-yard touchdown run on Friday night against Joliet Township on the same bootlege play, albeit this time to right, that he scored a 92-yard touchdown on against Morgan Park two weeks ago.

This time there was no Orlando Thomas to throw a key block. This time Geever was caught from behind at the 5-yard line.

He doesn't care. The Raiders scored a few plays later and went on to blow out the Steelmen 48-0 to stay undefeated and qualify for the playoffs with their fifth win.

"I'm just happy we scored," Geever said after throwing for two touchdowns and rushing for a third on a 13-yard run. "I got caught from behind. If we wouldn't have scored, I would have been more mad than I was, but I can't do anything about it now."

Except get ready for the hooping and hollaring during film study. My experience with these things is that his teammates will be nice about it, but getting ran down like that opens a guy up to some razzing.

After the Morgan Park game, Raiders coach John Ivlow said something along the lines of Geever is the worst athlete on the field, but made the biggest play. Ivlow said that Geever's mom, Laura Graf Geever, didn't take kindly to that.

"His ma jumped me behind the concession stand today and started yelling at me about saying that, and I told her, 'I'm sticking to it,'" Ivlow said. "He is. I'm sticking to it. Worst athlete on the field. But he's a great high school quarterback. He makes the right reads. He's not going to hurt you."

Unless you're a Bolingbrook opponent that is.

According to the basketball recruiting Web site Chicagohoops.com, Bolingbrook Raiders senior Troy Snyder committed to play his college basketball at Wisconsin-Green Bay.

Snyder told ChicagoHoops.com that he loved both the facilities at Wisconsin-Green Bay, and also the players. He went on to note that UWGB was "My type of place."

Snyder currently see's his ability to score the basketball as the strongest part of his game, and he is very much looking forward to the coming high school season at Bolingbrook.

This year, Bolingbrook figures to rank among the top teams in the state of Illinois with a star-studded lineup of players that includes both Snyder, and also Wisconsin-bound Class of 2009 star Diamond Taylor, who has transferred in from St. Joseph.
