Bolingbrook's 800-meter relay team returned home from the girls state track and field meet this weekend at Eastern Illinois University as state champs.

The team of Samantha Horton, Chantel Stennis, Kimerly Azie and Mercedes Griffin won the event with a time of 1:39.82. The team once again beat Waubonsie Valley, which took second in the event with a time of 1:40.39.

The other Raiders team that qualified for the state finals was the 400 relay squad, consisting of Samantha Horton, Rosemary Onyeguble, Kimberly Azie and Mercedes Griffin. The team took eighth place with a time of 48.63.

Freshman Jahnell Horton represented Bolingbrook in the 800 and took sixth place with a time of 2:15.61. Bolingbrook scored 16 team points, good enough for 20th place.

The girls track and field team participated in the Plainfield Central sectional on Saturday, a meet that was originally scheduled for Friday. It was pushed back due to bad weather.

Eventually, Bolingbrook advanced to state in five events and a total of eight girls will be making the trip to Eastern Illinois University for Friday's prelims. Here's the run down of the events and girls that advanced.
