Elgin's Biggest Loser: Week One

janelle.jpgNOTE: Courier-News freelancer Janelle Walker has signed up for the second round of the "Elgin's Biggest Loser" challenge. Participants weigh in Wednesday nights, and Janelle is blogging the experience exclusively for The Courier-News.

The first weigh in for Elgin's Biggest Loser, Take Two, was Wednesday night. And the good/bad news is the line for check-in and weigh-in was long.

The good news is people know about the challenge this time around and are lining up to get involved. The bad news is so many people need the extra motivation and help this program brings.

And, yes, I still am one of them. And let's just say I am not quite ready to come to terms with the number that popped up on the digital scale readout. Yes, I looked at it -- I guess I had to to know if any progress gets made. But I really didn't like it.

How'd that first week go? Find out after the jump.

And here I am at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday, writing for the blog, when I should be walking to my 7 p.m. meeting downtown. 'Cause that is the only way I am getting any kind of exercise today. Neither have I had a real dinner tonight. Hmm, there is a chicken breast in the fridge from last Wednesday ... Is it too old?

It still is sitting there because I barbecued last Wednesday and ate the burger, not the chicken; then on Thursday morning, I headed to North Dakota to spend the weekend with family and friends for my oldest nephew's high school graduation. Which meant lots of food all weekend, not to mention the nine hours of driving each way that is totally sedentary. I am proud I was able to run from the nephews that I may have instigated the water balloon fight with -- and after the 2-year-old nephew -- without running out of breath.

I am not proud of the pictures of me with my nephew. He deserves to have a healthy Aunt Nellie who will be around for a long time, too.

So, Week One and no workout to speak of and lots of graduation food. Gotta pick up my game by this time next week.

You GO girl! Do it! Looking for ways to sneak in the protein, go for Whey and LOW sugar content (5g or less) in the Ready-to-Drink variety and you'll be on easy street for simple on the go eating in no time. The George Forman grill will become a friend as well. No worries! ;)
