What are your favorite holiday happenings?

Thumbnail image for emily.jpgI'm a staunch believer in celebrating ONE HOLIDAY AT A TIME. (Only Nordstrom at Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg appeared to take my side on this one -- the store had a sign outside its doors last week explaining why it hadn't yet decorated for Christmas; BECAUSE IT ISN'T EVEN THANKSGIVING YET, YOU GUYS! You need to CALM DOWN ALREADY! Or something like that.)

Which is why I wore my ugly Christmas sweater Friday with gusto, and either hit, or am looking forward to, the following holiday happenings in the area:

More festivities in downtown Elgin, West Dundee and Chicago, after the jump.

  • Christkindlmarket Chicago at Daley Plaza, 50 W. Washington, Chicago. Usually, I think these Daley Plaza events are pretty lame, but not the Christkindlmarket! I have to get my hot mulled wine in a boot-shaped mug, which I've collected every year since I moved to Chicago. christkindlmarket.com
  • Holiday Arts & Crafts Market at swell gallery, 123 1/2 W. Main St., West Dundee. I did an article about swell gallery last year, and its owners are some swell gals! I can't wait to check out the arts, crafts and vintage items at their annual holiday show after work when it opens, 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3. swellgallery.com
  • Renegade Craft Fair Holiday Sale at the Pulaski Park Fieldhouse, 1419 W. Blackhawk, Chicago. The Renegade Craft Fair is one of my favorite Chicago festivals every summer. I'm excited to check out the Christmassy version! 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, to Sunday, Dec. 5. renegadecraft.com/holiday-chicago
