Haak thinks Hampshire has what it takes

Here's a tidbit from my conversation last week with Harvard coach Tim Haak that didn't make it in the paper or the blog. Until now, that is.

Haak thought the two best teams in the Big Northern Conference East Division -- at least on paper -- were Hampshire and Richmond-Burton.

The Whip-Purs lived up to their end by knocking off R-B in Richmond on Friday. Looking at the schedule earlier this season, when Hampshire was mired in an 0-3 start, I thought that might have been the toughest game left on the schedule.

Even after passing that test, Hampshire still has plenty of obstacles left.

"One of the great things about the conference is that there's never a game off," said Haak, who will be trying to knock off the Whips when his Hornets visit Hampshire next week. "Some conferences you can look at the schedule and say you can win this game or that. In our league, crossover, conference, it doesn't matter. It's always going to be a battle.

"I tell you, it's anyone's game. I don't see a dominant team right now talent-wise. But Richmond and Hampshire have the most talented kids."

So the word is out. Everyone knows the Whips have the talent to run the table in the BNC East. Now they just need to bring the focus and determination to go out and do it.
