Like many others in the area, I've been a die-hard Cubs fan my whole life. Never before have the Cubs have this good of a team and never before have the expectations of ending the 100-year drought been so high. I would have much rather seen the Mets, but we gotta play the Dodgers - one of the hottest, if not the hottest team in baseball. Join me throughout the game today for what figures to be one heck of an emotional rollercoaster.
Top 1 - inning ending double play by none other than the amazing Manny Ramirez. Is it just me or has ESPN been kissing his butt all week?
Bot 1 - So we each had a baserunner and no runs. Definitely not as loud at Wrigley as I thought it would be. Gotta get to Lowe early!!
Top 2- Another walk. No big deal. Dempster pitches out of it.
Bot 2 - Can you say team MVP!? Gotta love Mark DeRosa!! Home run just inside the right field foul pole. 2-0 Cubs. And we were worried he had a sore calf. Let's add on and get Lowe out of there!
Top 3 - Stop walking people, Demp! There ya go. Bases loaded, 2 outs, 3-2 count....strike three! Cubs get out of it! Demp throwing way too many pitches though
Bot 3 - This time D-Lee gets the hit and ARAM grounds into double play. No worries. Still 2-0
Top 4 - One hit, no runs. Not as many pitches thrown. We're looking good but need more runs
Bot 4 - two, two-out hits but no runs. Why is Theriot hitting 8th? Let's get Dempster through at least the sixth inning
Top 5 - Had to know all those walks would come back to haunt him. Grandslam, 4-2 Dodgers. That was on a 1-2 pitch and Demp had him in 0-2 hole. Demp goes 4 2/3 innings and walks 7. So much for the reliable Dempster.
Bot 5 - Surprise, surprise...a DLee double play. As a Cubs' fan, it's too easy to assume they'll screw this up and lose. Be positive...still have four innings.
Top 6 - Marshall looking alright. Walked one but no damage done. Time to get some runs! Lowe is good but he's not that good.
Bot 6 - Aram leadoff double. Gotta get this run home. Soto- K; Edmonds- ground out, Aram to 3rd; DeRosa flyout. Waste leadoff double and we all fear the worst
Top 7 - Well, I guess ESPN has a right to kiss Manny's butt. Home run, 5-2 Dodgers. Yeah, I wanted to remain positive but this isn't looking good.
Bot 7 - Fontenot gets a hit but left stranded at first. Now it's really not looking good.
Top 8 - Samardzija in. Triple then single, 6-2. Announcers comment on how the home field advantage is gone. Well, when you expect the worst you're bound to sit there in silence. How bout the Cubs prove they can win playoff games then we'll get excited.
Bot 8 - Nothing at all. Don't you miss the comforting voices of Len and Bob? Definitely don't like these tools on TBS.
Top 9 - Marquis in...another home run, 7-2. I see a stiff drink in my immediate future tonight.
Bot 9 - Cubs lose 7-2. Down 1-0 in a best-of-five series. Must-win game Thursday and Big Z better bring his A-game and not implode on the mound. Can the Cubs handle the pressure mentally? We'll see.
Well, we gotta blame this loss on something. Bring on another curse. I say it's the curse of TBS. Cubs have now lost four consecutive postseason games on TBS.
