Week Seven's Courier Prep Football Weekly's Game of the Week didn't quite live up its name on Friday night. St. Charles North laid down the hammer on Larkin, putting up 41 unanswered points in the first half and rolling to a 41-0 victory with a running clock in the second half.
Check out the highlights here.
Obviously, the North Stars looked impressive. A week away from its much-anticipated showdown with the crosstown Saints, North imposed its will on the Royals in the first half. Larkin connected on just one play for more than three yards in the entire half, as its run game was stopped dead in its tracks by the North Stars.
On offense, North was taking whatever it pleased. Jordan Huxtable, Eric Battle and Michael Ghanem all reeled off big plays in the half, with North blocking and creating big running holes for much of the night.
For Larkin, the loss was clearly demoralizing. Players were frustrated after seeing an opporuntity to inch closer to a possible playoff berth get emphatically slammed shut.
The loss does make next week's Town Jug game with Elgin more interesting however. The Maroons won their first game on Friday and now will meet what might be a reeling Larkin team next Saturday. Here's hoping that the Royals will respond in the city showdown. They still have something to play for and can make it seven years straight taking home the Jug.
Stay tuned for next week's Courier Prep Football Weekly and Game of the Week. It's rivalry week!
