Upstate Eight Conference football teams won't have to head south in the fall any longer.

The league's two-year engagement with the SICA came to an end when St. Charles East thumped Thornridge 42-0 last week. The outcome of that contest was fitting as UEC teams went 11-3 against their SICA counterparts the past two years, including a 6-1 advantage in 2008.

The home-and-away arrangement was one that came out of necessity for the two leagues. The UEC is made up of 11 teams and the SICA is comprised of two five-team divisions, leaving both conferences with scheduling conflicts given their uneven numbers.
With the new Metea Valley High in Aurora ready to join the league in 2010, the UEC won't have to worry about uneven numbers for long.

In the meantime, UEC teams are having success finding non-conference opponents closer to home in the nearby Fox Valley Conference.

One UEC-FVC matchup of particular interest that is slated to take place next fall will pit Dundee-Crown against Elgin. The Chargers also plan on extending their series with Streamwood after playing the Sabres each of the past two seasons.
