Rockets prepare for Grizzlies -- Burlington Central is minutes away from its Class 3A semifinal matchup with 37-1 Chicago Payton.
It's a "white out" for the Central supporters, who are all wearning white shirts and waving towels. Central's fan base clearly outnumbers the Grizzlies fan base.
4:39 -- Burlington Central Marv Leavitt, making his first trip Downstate in 19 years of coaching, is introduced first.
The Rockets are wearing all black, while the Grizzlies are sporting orange tops and blue bottoms.
4:46 -- We are underway at Redbird Arena in Normal. Payton to serve first.
Game 1
4:51 -- Central 8, Payton 3. Down 3-1, Rockets storm back behind serving of Meghan Zasada before Grizzlies timeout. Zasada has served up five straight points, including two aces.
5:04 -- Central 23, Payton 19.
5:06 -- Central 25, Payton 19. This just in: Central junior Stephanie Holthus is good. Holthus recorded her first kill of the match to put Central up 12-6, before going on to finish with 10 kills in the Game 1 victory. Senior Meghan Zasada closed out the game with an ace that hit the top of the net and fell over.
Game 2
5:15 -- Central 12, Payton 6 -- Central's Stephanie Holthus and Taylor Scully take turns scoring points, giving Rockets early cushion -- and forcing a timeout by the Grizzlies.
5:21 -- Central 20, Payton 10 -- This one is all but over. Central's Molly Turk just forced a timeout by the Grizzlies with a sneaky tip kill.
5:25 -- Central 25, Payton 12. How fitting, Holthus ends it with a kill off a pair of blocks. Dominating effort by Central. It will advance to tomorrow's Class 3A title match against an opponent yet to be determined.
