Class 2A St. Edward has earned the top spot in the first edition of The Courier News' girls basketball rankings.
Check out the rest of the Top 5:
St. Edward sports a 8-2 overall record and is currently riding a three-game winning streak.
The Green Wave received a scare last weekend when senior star Katie Yohn missed the team's game against ACC with a left foot injury. Coach Michelle Dawson said after the game that Yohn, who lead the area in scoring last year (20 ppg), would be out "indefinitely".
However, the sharp-shooting 6-foot guard returned one game later and scored 22 points. She then added a season-high 31 in another victory on Wednesday.
She's back.
Girls Basketball Rankings (thru Wednesday, Dec. 10)
Note: The Courier News' basketball rankings are not based on who would beat whom, but who we believe matches up best against like-sized competition.
1. St. Edward (8-2): Green Wave getting multiple contributions. Callie Johnson tallied a double-double (11 pts, 15 rebs) on Wednesday.
2. Hampshire (6-1): Whips host rival Burlington Central on Saturday. Hampshire is on four-game winning streak.
3. St. Charles North (5-2): North Stars had a 31-0 run during game against Streamwood last week. The Sabres attempted just eight shots during the spurt. Trust me, I was there.
