Girls Basketball Rankings (records updated thru Tuesday, Dec. 22)
Note: The Courier News' basketball rankings are not based on who would beat whom, but who we believe matches up best against like-sized competition.
1. St. Charles North (7-2): The North Stars reclaim the top spot and can gain a lot more respect state-wide with strong showing at D-C Tournament.
2. Hampshire (10-2): Christmas wish list includes improved shooting from the perimeter.
3. St. Edward (9-3): Wave is showing there will be life after Katie Yohn and current group of seniors.
4. Jacobs (11-3): Junior Hailey Cnota could be one of area's most versatile players -- in the paint and on the perimeter.
5. South Elgin (9-5): Senior Cortney Kumerow poured in 22 points in victory over previously undefeated Waubonsie Valley. Memo to UEC: We have a new contender.
