Girls Basketball Rankings (records updated thru Jan. 3)
Note: The Courier News' basketball rankings are not based on who would beat whom, but who we believe matches up best against like-sized competition.

1. St. Charles North (9-4): North Stars didn't get chance to play Fenwick at D-C tourney. They will meet in a scheduled game on Jan. 27 as part of the Sweet 16 Tournament.

2. Hampshire (11-2): Hampshire ended the first half of the season playing good basketball. Whips will be a tough postseason opponent for any Class 3A team.

3. St. Edward (11-5): Wave would like to have a good showing at powerhouse Montini on Tuesday. In the middle of extremely challenging three-game stretch playing Wheaton Academy (12-1), Montini (15-2) and Rosary (12-3).

4. Jacobs (12-5): Golden Eagles played in two Christmas tourneys and went a combined 5-3. Good test ahead on Friday at Johnsburg (11-6).

5. St. Charles East (9-4): Saints are off to 3-0 start in UEC after impressive victory against South Elgin. Should remain undefeated heading into Jan. 24 game at St. Charles North.
