St. Charles North moves to top -- Having not played in 13 days probably doesn't help St. Charles North (7-2) as it prepares for the Dundee-Crown Tournament.

But it does help them jump to No. 1 in this week's rankings, up two spots from last week.

The Hampshire boys basketball team will be without junior starting point guard Justin Bieber for an undetermined amount of time. People close to the program said he's out with a foot injury, though it's not considered to be serious. Bieber was on the bench and in street clothes during Hampshire's 59-49 win over Genoa-Kingston on Thursday night.

HAMPSHIRE -- To be honest, there really wasn't anything funny about Friday night's girls basketball matchup between local rivals Burlington Central and Hampshire.

But it would be fair to say that the contest certainly turned out to be a laugher.

Hampshire, the reigning Big Northern Conference East Division champion, opened its defense of the crown with a resounding 48-31 victory.
