I haven't done a ton of updates lately, not because there's not a lot of greenery going on.
In fact, you've probably noticed that Earth Day plans seem bigger than ever this year.
A lot of groups are calling all of April Earth Month. If that gives us more access to recycling opportunities and green programming, I approve. Plus, it mean even if you have plans on Earth Day proper, you can still take part in things.
I'll try to get organized and post some of the things going on soon. But do check your town's Web site to see what they're offering. Or take a look at library or green organizations' sites.
In the mean time, I'm going to be sorting stuff in the basement to pull together a bunch of stuff to recycle. This month, there are so many chances to recycle stuff that you normally can't just drop off and get recycled. It's going to be a good month.
Julie Todd is the night editor at The Herald News in Joliet. She and her
husband are looking to cut the chemicals and get back to basics -- minus the
granola and hemp clothing. They live in a home they bought last year in
Plainfield, where they're making changes to create their own little patch of
utopia.
I would love to see some links here on things that are recyclable this month but not normally. I am in "purge" mode at the moment and would much rather recycle than toss in the trash.
I've only lived in this area 18 months and really I am not in touch with Will county or Joliet on any recycle/green programs beyond my weekly recycle bin pick-up.
It would be great to classify April as Earth Month!
April is also National Safe Digging Month. As you are doing your part to make the Earth a more environmentally safe place, it's also important to keep safe. As a representative of JULIE, Inc., I just want to remind everyone to call 811 (the call is free!) before digging in their yard.
Here's to Earth Month...and safe digging!
I would be nice to see something published in your column about the bill that is in the house right now regarding organic farming in the USA.
