A Labor Day Big Mac attack

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)

While the rest of you were enjoying a leisurely Labor Day, The Hound was holding a celebration, gnawing on several Big Macs and marking the 40th anniverary of the quintessential American burger.

Yes, while loftier pundits for their Labor Day missives will wring their hands over low-paid workers toiling over the grills and fryers at McDonald's, The Hound just wraps his paws around a Big Mac and takes a big bite. Well, actually a couple of big bites. No need for fries with that.

According to McDonald's lore, the Big Mac was first introduced in 1967 by a franchise owner in Uniontown, Pa., and a year later it became a staple of the fast-food giant's menus nationwide. Since then, McDonald's estimates 550 million Big Macs are sold annually in the U.S. alone. They even sell it in France where it's known as Le Big Mac and not to be confused with the Royale.

Two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun. Now that's a sammich! Even though it has 540 calories and 29 grams of fat. Bon appetit!
