So the Navy is going to rebuild a street in North Chicago? Why stop there? The Hound says: Let the Navy run the entire city.

North Chicago officials don't seem too concerned about the invasion of the Navy spending upwards of $200,000 on a 580-foot stretch of Ray Street, in front of Yeager School. And why should they? After all, the Navy is picking up the tab for one of the worst streets in Lake County.

Apparently, Navy folks got tired of seeing potholes turn into sinkholes in front of the school named back in 1966 for Rear Adm. Howard Yeager, commandant back then of the Ninth Naval District at Great Lakes Naval Base.

Too bad Seabees aren't doing the actual work. They could show the North Chicago Public Works Department how it's really done. Think what Seabees could do at the shuttered Foss Park pool!

With the Navy in charge of North Chicago, city residents could get rid of all sorts of money-draining departments. Police could be replaced by Shore Patrol. Criminal behavior would be dealt with by the Uniform Code of Military Justice. That would shape up some of the city's thugs.

No need for a mayor because the Navy already has a "mayor" of Great Lakes. Definitely no need for aldermen. Seeing that they don't do much, they wouldn't be missed.

The opportunities are endless if the Navy ran North Chicago. And, hey, if the Navy declines the mission there's always Abbott Laboratories. They could really run the city like a business.
