What do you get a forest preserve district that has everything? A $22 million garage, of course.
All the Lake County Forest Board wanted to do was build a new $14 million, 107,000-square-foot maintenance and operations building in Lindenhurst.
Seeing that the foresters were anxious to spend money, a construction management consultant has pinned a $22.9 million price tag on the new facility.
Whatever the price of this palace, the district only has about $11 million to spend, and will have to come up with some creative financing for the rest.
All this has forced the forest board to put plans for a new administrative headquarters on hold indefinitely. What a shame.
