Going to pot

It's harvest time in Lake County and The Hound doesn't mean pumpkins. It's marijuana that area law enforcement types are bundling up and making sure isn't reaching the marketplace.

Within recent weeks, drug agents have seized an estimated $5 million in pot plants. That was 3,000 plants found off a wooded area between routes 41 and 43 and Martin Luther King Drive at the Waukegan-North Chicago border. Another 270 pounds of weed was harvest in rural Wauconda Township and additional 400 plants were found in the Barrington Hills area.

With that kind of pot farming going on in Lake County, marijuana sounds like it's one of the county's top agricultural cash crops. And, cops say the stuff seized wasn't mere "ditch weed". It was high-grade dope.

But it all went up in smoke last week and The Hound's glad he wasn't in the vicinity of the pot burns or he would have howled: "Far out!"
