There's some righteous anger out in certain parts of Lake County toward those so-called big box stores. Kind of late to be dancing the boogaloo over the big stores as village officials see retail sales tax dollar signs in their dreams.
The latest communities up in arms, or at least hearing from vocal minorities, are Mundelein and Antioch. Developers want to put in a Wal-Mart and other stores on Mundelein's west side, while in Antioch, the Antioch Marketplace on the village's east side will include a Target, Lowe's and Kohl's.
The Hound's prediction: Both projects will be approved easily after some hemming and hawing about berms, noise and light restrictions. It's too late, folks, to believe you can stop them.
You opened Pandora's box of development years ago and look what popped out: Big box stores! And they've multiplied like triffids, or at the very least, gremlins.
