For an upscale suburb, Deerfield has sure taken its shots in the past year.
First, it was the two kids who died in a car crash after drinking following a homecoming party at the home of Jeffrey and Sara Hutsell, who recently received jail time for hosting the bash. Then there was the girl who died while riding in a Jeep when it got T-boned. Then there was the group of kids, some of who attended the Hutsell party, were busted for under-age drinking.
Now, there's the shooting death of the girlfriend of former Chicago Bears defensive back Shaun Gayle. Maybe Riverwoods isn't looking too bad, huh?
Not that there's a crime spree going on in Deerfield because police say residents shouldn't be concerned if a mass murderer is roaming the streets in the normally quiet village shooting pregnant women. Yet, as of late Friday there IS a murderer at large. In fact, police say there are no suspects, or at least they haven't announced any.
Police say Rhoni Reuter, 42, of the Deerfield Crossing condo complex at 441 Elm St., was shot multiple times. After reports of the shooting, authorities then locked down Alan B. Shephard Middle School, two blocks west of Deerfield Crossing.
So, Deerfield residents shouldn't panic, but there are no suspects in a woman's murder. If The Hound lived in Deerfield he'd be locked and loaded.
