If you're confused over where we should stand when it comes to the situation in Darfur, a region in Sudan, author John Prendergast, author of eight books on Africa, the latest, "Not on Our Watch", which he co-authored with actor Don Cheadle and made the the New York Times' best seller list, is the guy to tell you.
He'll be at Congregation B'nai Torah, 2789 Oak St., Highland Park at 4 p.m. Sunday.
So far, it's only been Hollywood elite who have jumped on the Darfur bandwagon to stop what some have described as an on-going genocide by Sudan's Muslim-dominated government against the black African tribes who oppose it.
However, there is a local connection and it is Chicago Bull Luol Deng who was born there although he and his family ended up fleeing for their lives. Civil strife in the region since 2003 has left more than 200,000 people dead. Deng is active in a number of programs providing aid to Africa, including the NBA's Basketball Without Borders.
